Fat Frocks Unflattering Dress

By Gem - 14:07:00

Blogging and taking photos can be very useful, I now know that I won't be wearing this dress again unless I find a better way of styling it. Too booby and the stripes do me no favours around my waist. It is a very pretty dress but it was only £7 in Primark and has an elasticated back, there isn't much structure in the dress so it doesn't fit very well. I tried it on in the fitting room but sometimes you need to take a dress home and try it on with your own things.

Dress: Primark
Cardigan: asda
Belt: Peacocks
Leggings: Evans
Shoes: Evans

The frills and buttons in the bust area are very pretty, I'm going to try and style the dress a little differently and see if it can be more flattering. It would be a shame to wear a dress just once.

I saw these earrings in Dorothy Perkins and thought the letters on them were very cute and oh so apt because of the Pen Pal Exchange I'm co-ordinating, couldn't leave these little beauties there for £2.

I've not had the time to try out any more nail art this week but I bought this Mushroom shade from Barry M and I love it. I think it's quite chic and an appropriate shade to wear to work.

I've spoken about how much I love libraries and how we need to support them in a previous entry which you can find here. I've found a two new books in one of the libraries I work in which I think might inspire you to go and check out your local library. The DIY fashion book is great for a girl on a budget, I especially loved the tea staining tip to crate a vintage look with white fabric and the macarons book was beautiful to just look at but I really want to try and make some myself but I don't have a food processor and there is nowhere in my town where you can get food colouring paste....

Have you baked or attempted any diy fashion recently?
xx

I'm intrigued by the DIY Fashion book, are there any really helpful hint in it? I'm thinkin of adding lace to a plain dress of mine soon, don't know whether to sew, glue or tape it??

  2. the dress doesn't look that unflattering, i think it looks like it's just the belt being at an awkward place on you.. maybe try moving it up so that it's right under your boobs or wearing the dress without it? it's a lovely dress though and a bargain at £7! also loving the nail colour. my nails haven't had polish on them since saturday!! :o x

  5. I agree, the dress is lovely on you.. but maybe you could put a jumper or a little shrug over the top if it makes you feel uncomfortable?

Those books look great too - I want to try macaroons but I'm not brave enough. I'm still a bit rubbish at plain sponge cake. ;)

  7. Without trying to sound like a perv; your boobs look great! I think that dress is lovely - maybe wear a wide belt round the waist if you don't like that bit? I think I might be popping into Primark soon to steal your style!

  8. Thanks girls, I will try it with something else. It's got a seam around the middle and thats why I put the belt over it to cover it but maybe a wider belt would be good or I could wear a a little t shirt under it to make it a casual dress..
@Rose Rouge- I've seen so many macaroon disasters! Wish I could just buy them somewhere, I've never tried one!

@Claire Louise- It's got a good idea for covering an old case with sheet music that would look fab as storage in your bedroom.
If you put the lace under them hem instead of in the top you might be able to use that iron on stuff to bond it... you should pop in to the library and look for sewing and fabric books. Thats a good idea though, you could easily jazz up a plain dress by putting lace on the hem and sleeves :)

  9. I think it looks lovely as it is Gem! But if you're unsure, maybe you could wear a shorter cropped cardi and button it over the waist? Sally x

  10. @Amy- ooooh thanks! I think I know the shop, is it on St Mary's Street near Buzz shoe shop?

@dannithegirl- I need to dig all my old wide belts out and try it on with the dress for sure

@Charlene- no varnish?! not like you. I blame you for my new nail varnish obsession!

  24. I tried this dress on in the week and whilst really pretty I know what you mean about it being not the best fit which is a shame. It made me look really fat so I didn't buy it, it looks much better on you though :-)

  28. I think the dress looks really cute on you but comfort definitely is key. I have some dresses I love but I feel as if I'm always pulling down! Need tights pronto. I still need to get my butt to my local library, need to pay my library fees first, eeekk.

  29. That fashion book looks amazing, I need to hunt it down!

I know the feeling of buying something, even trying it on in the shop, but getting it home and it just not feeling right. I love the print of the dress it would be such a shame not to wear it, maybe you will come up with a different way to wear it :)

The earrings are perfect! I’m enjoying writing letters so much, and it’s lovely to be able to get to know you xx

  31. Agreed - libraries are definitely worth saving! They are a concrete and memorable part of my childhood, whiling away a Saturday morning in the local one in town while my Mum did her food shop :) I haven't done much DIY of late but I bought a lace collar in Venice so I'll give that a bash! Kudos to you for raising awareness of these important community buildings! jazzy ♥

looool last time I cooked I set the over alight soo I'm guessing it would be a better option for me to just stay away from the kitchen!!! ahahaa

  33. This dress is actually really fab and cute on you. I would keep it. Adjust the belt a bit, maybe something a little wider and in a solid, no texture or patterns, pair with a denim jacket, or denim cut off vest.

  34. I think the dress looks grand on you actually. I tried it on and felt like one giant boob. It was altogether rather traumatic!
