Blogging and taking photos can be very useful, I now know that I won't be wearing this dress again unless I find a better way of styling it. Too booby and the stripes do me no favours around my waist. It is a very pretty dress but it was only £7 in Primark and has an elasticated back, there isn't much structure in the dress so it doesn't fit very well. I tried it on in the fitting room but sometimes you need to take a dress home and try it on with your own things.
Dress: Primark
Cardigan: asda
Belt: Peacocks
Leggings: Evans
Shoes: Evans
The frills and buttons in the bust area are very pretty, I'm going to try and style the dress a little differently and see if it can be more flattering. It would be a shame to wear a dress just once.
I saw these earrings in Dorothy Perkins and thought the letters on them were very cute and oh so apt because of the Pen Pal Exchange I'm co-ordinating, couldn't leave these little beauties there for £2.
I've not had the time to try out any more nail art this week but I bought this Mushroom shade from Barry M and I love it. I think it's quite chic and an appropriate shade to wear to work.
I've spoken about how much I love libraries and how we need to support them in a previous entry which you can find here. I've found a two new books in one of the libraries I work in which I think might inspire you to go and check out your local library. The DIY fashion book is great for a girl on a budget, I especially loved the tea staining tip to crate a vintage look with white fabric and the macarons book was beautiful to just look at but I really want to try and make some myself but I don't have a food processor and there is nowhere in my town where you can get food colouring paste....
Have you baked or attempted any diy fashion recently?
xx

Loving the mushroom nail polish!
ReplyDeleteI'm intrigued by the DIY Fashion book, are there any really helpful hint in it? I'm thinkin of adding lace to a plain dress of mine soon, don't know whether to sew, glue or tape it??
the dress doesn't look that unflattering, i think it looks like it's just the belt being at an awkward place on you.. maybe try moving it up so that it's right under your boobs or wearing the dress without it? it's a lovely dress though and a bargain at £7! also loving the nail colour. my nails haven't had polish on them since saturday!! :o x
ReplyDeleteI think the outfit's really cute!
ReplyDeleteI think you look gorgeous <3 I have the blue version of this and just LOVE it x
ReplyDeleteI agree, the dress is lovely on you.. but maybe you could put a jumper or a little shrug over the top if it makes you feel uncomfortable?
ReplyDeleteThose books look great too - I want to try macaroons but I'm not brave enough. I'm still a bit rubbish at plain sponge cake. ;)
You can buy food colouring paste from Kitchens in cardiff £2.20 if not you just ahve to use normal colouring works fine just not as bright :) xx
ReplyDeleteWithout trying to sound like a perv; your boobs look great! I think that dress is lovely - maybe wear a wide belt round the waist if you don't like that bit? I think I might be popping into Primark soon to steal your style!
ReplyDeleteThanks girls, I will try it with something else. It's got a seam around the middle and thats why I put the belt over it to cover it but maybe a wider belt would be good or I could wear a a little t shirt under it to make it a casual dress..
ReplyDelete@Rose Rouge- I've seen so many macaroon disasters! Wish I could just buy them somewhere, I've never tried one!
@Claire Louise- It's got a good idea for covering an old case with sheet music that would look fab as storage in your bedroom.
If you put the lace under them hem instead of in the top you might be able to use that iron on stuff to bond it... you should pop in to the library and look for sewing and fabric books. Thats a good idea though, you could easily jazz up a plain dress by putting lace on the hem and sleeves :)
I think it looks lovely as it is Gem! But if you're unsure, maybe you could wear a shorter cropped cardi and button it over the waist? Sally x
ReplyDelete@Amy- ooooh thanks! I think I know the shop, is it on St Mary's Street near Buzz shoe shop?
ReplyDelete@dannithegirl- I need to dig all my old wide belts out and try it on with the dress for sure
@Charlene- no varnish?! not like you. I blame you for my new nail varnish obsession!
I love your dress, its super cute!
ReplyDeleteI like it Gem, Sally is a good point, do whatever makes you comfortable. I tend to wear cropped cardis now, as I'm not in love with my waist atm. I like the print, love barrym mushroom, great colour xxx
ReplyDeleteI actually thought you looked lovely :) Hm, my fiance bought me a sewing machine for my birthday so I have been learning to sew loads, nothing major yet (couture dresses are still to come haha) but I'm learning, and slowly getting there :)
ReplyDeleteThis dress looks AMAZING on you!
ReplyDeleteI really love the dress, quite tempted to visit a primarni now..If you think it's too booby, maybe leave it for outside work.
ReplyDeletei agree with you about sometimes having to take the piece home first. i think the dress is really pretty, maybe lose the cardigan or replace it with something less bulky? :) your earrings and nailpolish are beautiful!!!

ReplyDeleteI really want to get into DIYing clothes, been going to jumble sale to buy some cheap clothes that I can experiment with. I just dont have a clue where to start haha!

Aww, I think the dress is cute, the buttons are nice and they look unusual!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try and bake macarons tonight without a food processor, i shall blog about it when I'm all done and let you know if it's worth a try or not!
I've had a few DIY projects on the go recently, and I'm going to try and make a couple of dresses from scratch in the next fortnight - which I always really love doing :D
Great nail varnish, and the dress looks great on you, don't worry about it.
ReplyDeleteI recently built a cake for my friends bday, but I'd like to try to make some macaroons! hope you get to make yours! xx
That dress has the loveliest pattern on it!! I would love to support my library, I need to find time to sit down and read a book because blogs don't count! :)
ReplyDeleteI actually think you look fantastic :)
ReplyDeleteThese Primark dresses are amazing, there's a sail boat one I have my eye on!
I love the dress its pretty, I think it does look nice on you :) Great earrings can't believe they were only £2 bargin! Great finds with the last two books esp the fashion one sounds really interesting X
ReplyDeleteI tried this dress on in the week and whilst really pretty I know what you mean about it being not the best fit which is a shame. It made me look really fat so I didn't buy it, it looks much better on you though :-)
ReplyDeleteoh hello fellow library staff! i love the cook books in my library so much, i may do a similar post of all the great books i've got on loan atm :)
ReplyDeletei have to say i dont think this dress looks like how you say it does :) you could try a cute blouse under it to keep you more covered up or something?

I have that dress! I think it looks cute on you bb! :)
ReplyDeleteI think the dress looks really cute on you but comfort definitely is key. I have some dresses I love but I feel as if I'm always pulling down! Need tights pronto. I still need to get my butt to my local library, need to pay my library fees first, eeekk.
ReplyDeleteThat fashion book looks amazing, I need to hunt it down!
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling of buying something, even trying it on in the shop, but getting it home and it just not feeling right. I love the print of the dress it would be such a shame not to wear it, maybe you will come up with a different way to wear it :)
The earrings are perfect! I’m enjoying writing letters so much, and it’s lovely to be able to get to know you xx
i hvae a blue version of this dress from last year and had the exact same problem with it, i think it's just the styel - i just didn't feel comfortable!
ReplyDeletei am intrigued by the diy fashion book, i love the library in my town it's always rly quiet!
Agreed - libraries are definitely worth saving! They are a concrete and memorable part of my childhood, whiling away a Saturday morning in the local one in town while my Mum did her food shop :) I haven't done much DIY of late but I bought a lace collar in Venice so I'll give that a bash! Kudos to you for raising awareness of these important community buildings! jazzy ♥
ReplyDeleteOh those books look amazing!
ReplyDeleteDIY yes - cooking?
ReplyDeletelooool last time I cooked I set the over alight soo I'm guessing it would be a better option for me to just stay away from the kitchen!!! ahahaa
the dress really suits you by the way, and I just bought that nail varnish
mushroom :D
loving it x
This dress is actually really fab and cute on you. I would keep it. Adjust the belt a bit, maybe something a little wider and in a solid, no texture or patterns, pair with a denim jacket, or denim cut off vest.
ReplyDeleteI think the dress looks grand on you actually. I tried it on and felt like one giant boob. It was altogether rather traumatic!
ReplyDeleteThat Barry M Mushroom shade is my work look too! Tres chic :)
ReplyDeleteKim xx
I actually love that dress!
